
Alvan Quamina

Alvan Quamina was born and grew up in Port- of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago. He attended St. Crispin E.C. (elementary) School in Wood-Brook, Port-of-Spain, and high school in San Fernando, the second largest city in Trinidad, at Naparima College.
He came to the United States in 1956 and attended Northern Baptist Theological College in Chicago for three years. He then completed his BA program in History at Roosevelt University, Chicago. He then attended Wheaton College Graduate School in Wheaton, graduating with an MA in Church History.
Alvan is a minister of the gospel, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, mother, and uncle.
He met his wife Celestine at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. She was born in Summer Lee, West Virginia, and grew up in Muncie, Indiana, and met her husband in Chicago. After 57 years of serving the Master together, she went home to the Lord in January 2016. Alvan asserts that she was a constant companion, friend, and motivator, and their strength in life is the reality that “Jesus leads me all the way, leads me step by step each day.”
Alvan was ordained at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church after serving there for a number of years, was assistant pastor at Mozart Missionary Baptist Church while serving as Director of Door of Hope Rescue Mission all in Chicago, and served one and one-half years in Port Limon, Costa Rica pastoring and supervising eight churches, and returned to Trinidad to pastor these churches.
